A connection with the forward and return path (downstream and upstream) via satellite is also called two-way system.

In the downstream users are depending on the provider data rates of 64 kbit / s and 5,120 kbit / s available to satellite operators are negotiated separately in individual cases of smaller and larger transfer rates. The transmission rate of the upstream is between 64 kbit / s and 1 Mbit / s. Also in technically much higher data rates are possible.

Advantage of the pure satellite connection is that they are independent of available terrestrial data or telephone lines. The selected site must be only in the broadcast area of an appropriate vessel. Furthermore, these compounds can be offered to European or worldwide from a single source. In particular, large companies appreciate this because of the ease of administration and accounting.
